About Mardi Himal Trekking

Mardi Himal Trekking is one of the most beautiful trekking destinations in Nepal as it boasts of demonstrating the elite features of the stunning Annapurna Conservation Area. The eye appealing views of the Himalaya and because of its easy accessibility, this trek is gaining an enormous popularity within a short period of time.

The trekking trail of Mardi Himal is comparatively a newly inaugurated trail which starts from the travelers’ heart of Nepal - Pokhara. It will be approx. one hour drive to Kande where we will start the trek to Australian Camp followed by small village of Pothana. The sunset and sunrise view from Pothana is simply amazing. Then the journey continues to the junction point of Pitam Deurali where our trail to Mardi Himal separates from the Annapurna Base Camp route. It will take us another 4 hours from Pitam Deurali to reach (Kokar) Forest camp, situated in the middle of oak and rhododendron forests. It is a good camp to overnight with couple of Tea Houses.

The trek now gradually climbs in the hub of rhododendron mounds and Himalayan grasslands to the Mardi Himal Low camp via Rest camp. It is comparatively a short day compared to the last camp. The hike from Low camp to High camp is an interesting one. With beautiful mountains showing up once we get to Badal Danda. This place is literally above the clouds with astonishing views of Mount Fishtail, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and others. Mardi Himal High Camp is the last point up to which Tea Houses are available. Though we can hike up to Lower, Upper View Point and finally to Mardi Himal Base Camp the following day. Definitely this day will be the major highlight of your Mardi Himal Trek. After the wonderful experience and vistas that we have witnessed, we descend down gradually to Sidding village and then drive back to Pokhara.

This is a teahouse trek which persuades you with the witness of the tongue - tying landscapes and diverse forests in the perfectly pristine atmosphere. Also, this trek offers you an opportunity to appreciate the local ethnic culture of the people. The Gurung, Rai and Limbu villages give intuition into the distinct customs and culture of the indigenous people who inhabit in the Himalaya of Nepal.

Hence, this short Mardi Himal Trek is a perfect mix of natural grace, Himalayan eminence and a serene trekking journey. Our highly skilled and hiking specialist team will assure to take care of you from the very start to the end of the journey and will put their best efforts to make your trip a journey to remember for the lifetime. Mardi Himal Trekking can be done throughout the year. Best season would be from March- May and September- December.

Useful Info

Hiring Porter in Mardi Himal Trek

Enjoy a carefree Mardi Himal Trek with a personal porter. For just $25 per day, our porters will carry your gear (up to 24kg) so you can focus on the breathtaking views. Share the cost with friends – it’s only $8 per person in a group of three. We provide double bags for your porter to pack your gear at no extra cost.

The Best Time to Do the Mardi Himal Trekking:
The best seasons for trekking in the Mardi Himal region are spring (February to late April) and autumn (late September to late November). Winter trekking is also possible. However, if there is a lot of snow the path may be quite challenging.

The Mardi Himal Trekking is a Tea Houses/Lodge Trek:

Accommodation is included in the cost of your package. Annapurna Foothills Treks takes great care to arrange the most comfortable accommodation possible throughout your stay.

In Kathmandu, our clients enjoy two nights in Hotel Holy Himalaya before and after heading into the remote regions.

During the trek, the nights will be spent in clean and comfortable tea houses with plenty of character and good food. The simple rooms usually have two narrow beds. The family run lodges are a great place to get to know the Nepalese people. In Nepalese culture, a guest is equal to god, and surely this has become even more of a reality since the tourism industry has improved their meager opportunities to earn. You will be made very welcome!

Spending Money per Day:

Although it depends on your spending habits, you should allocate US$ 10 - 15 per meal in Kathmandu. On the trek, your meals are included, but you may wish to purchase extras which are not included in your package, such as chocolate bars, Coca Cola or a beer. US$10 - 15 a day should be enough, but keep in mind the cost of all items increases proportionately with the distance from the trail head.

Customize Your Mardi Himal Trek

Your Mardi Himal adventure can be tailored to your exact preferences. Enjoy the flexibility to extend your trek, but please note that an additional $70 per person per day will apply.

Drinking Water on the Trek:

While trekking, it is important to keep hydrated; you should drink at least 3 liters of water each day. Tea Houses sell water either boiled and mineral water. We suggest taking water purifier or tablets for additional safety.

Fitness/Health for the Mardi Himal Trekking:

If you have a reasonable level of fitness, this trek should be more than manageable. The altitude becomes more noticeable the higher we go, so we walk at a slow pace and take plenty of breaks to rest and acclimatize.

Safety during the Trek:

When travelling in remote mountain regions, uncertainties such as weather, health problems and natural disasters require a certain amount of flexibility. While our goal is to follow the itinerary, that is not our first priority; your safety is always our first priority. Annapurna Foothills Treks and Expeditions request your cooperation to accept the decisions and advice of our trusted and experienced guides if they deem it necessary to change or cancel any part of the itinerary due to safety concerns.

Travel Insurance For the Trek:

Annapurna Foothills Treks strongly recommends you have sufficient insurance coverage to go into this remote area. You need specialized travel insurance that covers emergency evacuation, injury, lost baggage, liability and medical treatment. Make sure the insurance covers all the activities that you will be undertaking during your stay in Nepal. Annapurna Foothills Treks and Expeditions Pvt. Ltd. can organize the appropriate medical response based on your policy.
