About Himlung Expedition
Himlung Himal is one of the newly opened 7000 + meter peaks for climbing, nestled between magical Manaslu and Annapurna massifs. Although Mount Himlung is a gradual less technical climb at 7126 meters, it is a significant challenge in the Himalayas of Nepal. Annapurna Foothills Treks is gearing up for 2025 Spring and 2025 Autmn Expeditions to the remote region of Mount Himlung. This Himalayan giant is perfect for someone with basic mountaineering experience and who is eager to try a high-altitude mountain expedition in Nepal. This region (Naar and Phu) was only opened for tourists in 2001, and until now, few expeditions have discovered the majestic Mount Himlung. This is an expedition of stunning scenery, remote, pristine land and fascinating culture. You pass through evergreen forests, springs and cavernous rocky gorges, surrounded by high snow-capped peaks and glaciers. The inhabitants of this remote area which reaches up to the border of Tibet, have retained much of the traditional Tibetan culture and religious beliefs.
Our Himlung Himal Expedition starts west of Kathmandu at Beshishar (840m). It follows the Classic Annapurna Circuit Trekking trail up the Marshyangdi river valley to the village of Koto before veering off into the Phu Valley of the remote Gandaki region. The ancient Tibetan settlements of Naar and Phu are nestled in the valley below the mighty Himlung Himal. You spend an extra day at Phu to acclimatize and explore this picturesque Buddhist settlement. On a grassy meadow high above Phu is the Himlung Himal Base Camp at 4900 meters.
We will set up three more camps, Camp I, Camp II and Camp III, at 5450m, 6000m and 6350m, respectively, before attempting the summit of Mount Himlung. Although the ultimate goal is to reach the summit, our Sherpas' main priority is your comfort and safety. The itinerary is flexible to accommodate any health problems of the climbers and weather conditions on the mountain. Our professional, experienced and competent Local Sherpa Guides will take you through acclimatization through a process of adequately paced ascents and descents, preparing your body physically fit to cope accordingly with the altitude.
From Camp III, we push for the summit. The strategy to summit will be waking up very early in the morning, re-checking all the climbing gears and equipment, and beginning our final climb to the summit of Himlung Himal at 7126 meters. Our Climbing Sherpa Guide will fix ropes, ensuring everyone's safe and sound ascent and descent. Expect the summit push day to be the longest and most challenging. The slope on the ridge's side is where the summit push's steepest climb begins, a 50° vertical climb gaining approximately 700 meters in altitude. This final part of the climb is straightforward but physically demanding. The route then reaches a less steep ridge and continues to a flatter section before the slight final slope. The summit ascent takes approx. 10 - 12 hours on average, but that, of course, will depend upon individual climbers. With our expert, Sherpa Climbing Guide leading the trail, the climb to the summit, for sure, will be a success. From the summit, you will eyewitness a surreal panorama of Mount Annapurna (8091 m), Manaslu (8156 m) massifs, and other neighbouring Himalayan Giants.
